Pat Kennedy's Ball Burnishing Tips

Pat Kennedy's ball burnishing tips are the only tips of their kind on the market. The unique features of these tips are heat and polish. A heated, polished ball offers the following advantages: it melts the cellulose fibers of the wood; it eliminates the need to seal the wood, because melted cellulose fibers will not return to their original shape; it can be used on a variety of carving tasks. Use ball burnishers for raising a duck bill's nostrils, indenting around a duck bill nail, carving wrinkles on birds and fish, modeling around eyes, modeling bird feet, finishing the center shaft of feathers, and signing. Most carvers use a crushing technique to accomplish tasks like putting wrinkles on a duck's bill. They use a pencil, a wrinkler tool, or other homemade device. The disadvantages of the crushing technique are: pencils leave a black line and are difficult to cover with paint; pencil points break and gouge the wood; pencil and cold ball burnishers require pressure to crush the wood fibers, limiting the carver's freedom of movement, and due to the moisture in the air, crushed wood fibers will retun to their original shape until they are sealed. You won't have these problems with Pat Kennedy's ball burnishing tips. Colwood's ball burnishing tips require more heat and we recommend using the Super Pro II Unit.
