Urethane Foam

McKenzie Urethane Foam
This is a medium density two-component urethane foam. Simply measure equal amounts of part A and part B (1 to 1 ratio by weight), mix and stir. Foam will expand within minutes and harden in less than an hour. Excellent for building up bases for habitat construction. Pour directly onto base and it will expand to a lightweight rigid foam which can then be carved, rasped, cut or sanded. Many artists shape their foam by hand while it expands. Just wear latex gloves and dust them with talcum or baby powder. (Caution: Do not breath fumes while foam is expanding.) This is a quick and inexpensive way to make bases for marsh scenes, snow scenes and ground cover scenes. After the foam hardens simply cover with the material of your choice. For dry ground, use colored mache or WASCO Instant Base Mix. For wet earth, try using dried (used) coffee grounds mixed with lay-up resin. For snow, paint the foam white and use WASCO artificial snow or snow flocking. For sand, mix dry sand with ElmerÍs Glue and water. Also great for mannikin alterations, or for creating carcass cast mannikins for specialty poses.
