For realistically finishing game heads, you can't beat Sallie Dahmes Finishing Wax. Manufactured from pure triple-refined beeswax, and tinted to exacting colors developed by Sallie herself, this is the finest wax available. It's also inexpensive -- a 1 oz. container should last through the season in the busiest of shops. It's easy to use -- simply warm the wax with a small light bulb and apply to areas around the eyes, tear ducts, and nostrils. Shape with a modeling tool and smooth with lacquer thinner. This wax is permanent and will remain hard unless heated. Sallie uses Burnt Umber wax to fill in around most deer eyes and to produce the nictilating membrane.
