Polytranspar Hide Paste
An excellent quality water-based pre-mixed hide paste for general use in fish, game head and lifesize mammal taxidermy. Also excellent for gluing earliners to ears. Sallie Dahmes Hide Paste
This is the personal formula of World Champion deer taxidermist Sallie Dahmes for one of the finest hide pastes that we have tested. Before mounting, apply a very thin layer to the entire mannikin. Sallie considers this step to be of primary importance and recommends that you do not eliminate it! Without hide paste the cape will drum or lift from the mannikin creating a poor, amateurish mount. For best results, mix the dry hide paste with hot water (almost boiling) and stir. Add enough hide paste to make a creamy consistency similar to peanut butter. Stir in 2 capfuls of Lysol disinfectant to keep bacteria growth to a minimum. Always let it cool overnight, prior to using it. Store in an airtight plastic container. Or if you prefer, you can mix small amounts of hide paste as you use it. Just mix the powder with cool water and let it sit for about thirty minutes until it becomes smooth. Apply a very thin coat of Sallie Dahmes Hide Paste to the mannikin which has been primed with Fin Backing Cream (or other mannikin primer). Pay special attention to detail areas such as the eye, lip & nose slots, mouth area, depressions, brisket, and muscle detail. Apply and smooth the paste to all the areas of the mannikin with the exception of the top of the antler plate and where the seam will be located. Wash hide paste from the hair with a damp sponge before it dries.
