Polytranspar Degreaser
This solvent is used for degreasing oily skins of fish, bird, mammals, and reptiles. It removes surface (adipose layer) fats, grease and other waterproofing oils that remain on the skin; allowing for better penetration of salts, pickling and tanning chemicals, as well as eliminating grease bleed-through problems in the finished mount. Works great for coldwater fish, waterfowl, and "fatty" mammals such as bears and raccoons. To use, simply fill a container with enough solution to cover the skin completely. For fish, let them soak for two hours for average specimens or overnight for greasy fish or exceptionally large specimens. For waterfowl or mammals, allow the skin to soak in degreaser for 20 minutes to an hour. After degreasing, specimens should be washed and rinsed in cool water. Polytranspar Degreaser is a hydrocarbon solvent which will effectively dissolve most oils and greases, drawing them out of the skin where they will settle at the bottom of the container. The clean solvent can then be poured back into an airtight container for storage, and it can be reused repeatedly with no ill effects. (After hundreds of fish, the degreaser will eventually become depleted.) Being a hydrocarbon, Polytranspar Degreaser has the ability to absorb moisture and remove oxygen from the skin. Because of this feature, and the slightly acidic pH, fish skins can be temporarily stored in the solvent for a period of several days. Polytranspar Degreaser is a high flash point solvent (high point of ignition) and is formulated to be a low risk fire hazard. However, as with any combustible liquid, care must be taken to keep it away from excessive heat, sparks or open flame. Cannot be shipped by air.

Bollmann's Grease Buster Degreaser
A concentrated degreasing compound which actually penetrates to remove fats and greases from within the skin itself. Mix 1 to 4 tablespoons (depending on specimen) of Grease Buster per gallon of water to make a working solution. It penetrates rapidly to provide effective degreasing within one to two hours in bird, fish and fur skins. Also useful as a pre-casting solution for fish and fish head reproductions. Removes preening oils from feathers without damaging their natural color. Reduces drying time. An absolute must in good tanning and taxidermy. No disposal problems -- Grease Buster solutions undergo air oxidation after 24 hours and become completely inert. Kemsol Degeaser
Multi-purpose solvent degreaser developed by Knobloch's. Kemsol Degreaser acts as a solvent, yet it can be mixed with up to 20 parts water. Has no offensive odor and is safe to use. The solution may be used repeatedly. Works well on mammals, birds and fish. Compatible with all tanning agents. Can be used in conjunction with Kemal-4. To use, mix one part Kemsol Degreaser with two to 20 parts water, depending upon how greasy your specimen is. Soak skins for at least one hour. For especially greasy skins such as ducks and geese, Kemsol Degreaser can be painted directly on the skin. Let it set for one-half hour and then place skins in the solution described above. To make the solution last longer, remove as much fat as possible and rinse first in a mild Kemal-4 solution. It is advisable to wear rubber gloves when using Kemsol Degreaser. It will remove oil from your skin and could cause dermatitis.
