WASCO Fin Carding System

The last operation performed on a mounted fish before it is aside to dry is the carding of the fins, and there are nearly as many different methods as there are fish taxidermists. Many of the old methods include the use of pieces of waxed or plastic milk cartons, thin sheets of lead or aluminum, pieces of window screen, or any other material that would hold the fin in the desired position until it was dry. All of these methods had serious disadvantages. The "ideal" fin carding system is one that has been used and taught for many years by taxidermy legend Jim Hall of Idaho Falls, Idaho. It incorporates the use of 1/8" mesh hardware screen and a special 1/32" thick Polysoft plastic sheet material.

Galvanized Screen Wire Mesh Backing (1/8" x 1/8" screen mesh) is used on the back of the fin to allow air to circulate through for speedy drying. It also may be bent into any desired position for curved or wavy fins. Simply place the wire screen on the back of the fin, the Polysoft Plastic Fin Carding Sheet on the show side, and paper clip together. The system is reusable for hundreds of mounts!

The WASCO Fin Carding System includes a 4 square foot sheet of Polysoft Plastic Fin Carding Material, 144 Jumbo Head Pins, 100 Jumbo Gem Clips, and 3 sq. feet (12" x 36") of 1/8" Galvanized Screen Wire Mesh Backing. It's fast, economical, professional and best of all, reusable (it can be used over and over again on hundreds of mounts!) A $28.80 value!
