Frank Newmyer Acrylic Bird Eyes
Within the past few years, glass eyes for game heads have dramatically improved in quality and realism. But most birds are mounted with the same glass eye designs that have been around for years. The lack of realism in bird eyes frustrated World Champion Frank Newmyer, and he realized that the sizes and colors commercially available were not accurate enough to suit his standards.
He wanted a new bird eye -- one that would meet his stringent criteria. First, it had to have a natural looking pupil, positioned at the correct depth. The pupil should have a soft, feathered edge, so you couldn't see exactly where the edge of the iris begins. Because existing eye size and color charts were not accurate, Frank decided to start from scratch with new colors and sizes.
Frank teamed his expertise with that of Erling Morch, an acclaimed European taxidermist. For the past two years, they have been developing this new bird eye line. Made from hard, crystal-clear acrylic, these new eyes can be cleaned with harsh solvents (including lacquer thinner) without blushing or hazing. If hazing occurs, apply some gloss with a small brush. They have accurate blended colorations, and look real from every angle. They are the first competition quality bird eye, yet they are priced low enough to use in commercial mounts!
