The "Sealer" or primer coat is of primary importance! Without the proper sealer, paint will not adhere properly to a fish (or any other surface). Sealer coats are designed to create a permanent bond between the primed surface and all subsequent layers of paint. Painting on an unprimed surface can cause paint to lift or chip. Make sure that you use the proper sealer depending on the surface to be painted.

Polytranspar Fiberglass Primer
Allows adhesion of other paints to polyester fish blanks (fiberglass reproductions) or artificial heads. Apply to clean surfaces only and allow to dry overnight before applying colors. The fiberglass primer bonds chemically and mechanically to the resin to allow proper adhesion of all subsequent coats of paint. Either water-based or lacquer-based airbrush paint may be used over this primer. Available in four time-saving base colors. Flammable liquid. Cannot be shipped by air.

Polytranspar White Wood Sealer
Seal and prime your wood carvings in one easy step. This high-quality lacquer-based wood sealer contains a special fine white pigment which "whites out" your carvings while sealing the wood to accept the paint. Fewer coats of sealer and primer mean more of your carefully carved details show through for the finished carving. Master wildlife artist Mark Frazier likes to apply Polytranspar White Wood Sealer to his carvings with a bristle brush, and then immediately wipe away the excess with a soft cloth.
