Don utilizes taxidermy reproduction fish blanks to demonstrate his painting techniques for four species; largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, rainbow trout and brown trout, using both water-based and lacquer-based airbrush paints, The painting techniques that Don shows in this seminar will work equally well for both carved fish and fiberglass reproductions. Honored as the only person to ever win the World Championship title in Fish Carving an amazing four times, Clark Schreibeis of Montana presents this informative seminar demonstrating his unique methods for inserting and detailing fins as well as his procedures for texturing fish carvings. Clark’s innovative techniques for inserting fins with a perfect fit allow him to use almost no filler material to achieve a clean transition and to eliminate problems caused by texturing and burning resins. He also demonstrates his award-winning methods for detailing fin rays and producing scale patterns on wood. Taped live on April 11, 2003. 2 hours.


Detailing Heads and Mouths with Jeff Compton
Join World Champion Fish Carver Jeff Compton of Minnesota for this highly informative seminar from the 2003 World Fish Carving Championships demonstrating his methods for detailing the head and mouth areas of fish carvings. Utilizing the front half of a trout as an example, Jeff uses a variety of tools to demonstrate all of his award-winning procedures on how to correctly carve the details of the head, throat, eye sockets, opercle, mandible, maxillary, and mouth interior. Edited from over 15 hours of raw video footage, these four DVDs cover the complete three days of seminars filmed in Springfield, Illinois during the first week of April 2001 at the World Fish Carving Championships. In part 1, Mark Frazier presents pattern making and reference, Bob Berry roughs out the body, and Don Frank demonstrates carving fins. In part 2, Ed Walicki creates the scale grid and makes burning tips, Mike Windauer discusses scaling and Clark Schreibeis develops the head and mouth areas. In part 3, Jeff Compton creates fin details and Don Frank, Mike Windauer and Bob Berry develop habitat base designs. In part 4, Mike Windauer explains eyes and eye setting and the entire group of eight instructors, including Randy Pike, take turns with "tag team" painting. Recorded live in April 2001.
